Figural N.Y.C. Police Pistol Award Ashtray, 1948.
A very unusual New York Police memorabilia item. It is a Lucite ashtray which holds a gold-tone metal figure of a policeman aiming his pistol. The officer measures 5 ¼" in height, while the entire piece measures approx. 5 ¾" in height. The width of the ashtray is approx. 4 ½" square. The base is a clear Lucite with a green swirl marble showing through. Around the top edges of the piece, are incised "New York Mirror" (A New York daily newspaper); "International Police Pistol Tournament"; & "Teaneck-1948." These marks are on three sides of the ashtray, with the front left blank (most likely for the awardees name). The metal figure is bolted to the Lucite base.
